U19: von Ahlen and Weiser leave Bayer 04

Changes at Kurtekotten: The two U19 coaches Markus von Ahlen and Patrick Weiser will leave Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the end of the year. In terms of successors, Thomas Eichin, head of the Performance Centre since the summer of 2020, is in advanced discussions to be able to reveal new appointments for the position soon.

"Sporting director Simon Rolfes and I have come to the conclusion that change is needed in this important interface to the first-team squad," explained Eichin. "And due to the season being interrupted by the pandemic, we have the opportunity to take this step sooner. That means the new coaching team will be able to prepare earlier for the 2021/22 season. We would like to express our gratitude to Markus von Ahlen and Patrick Weiser for their good work over the past four and a half years."
