U15s celebrate away wins
While the U15s scored late in both halves at Duisburg, the U14 team settle matters early in the Youth Cup at Bochum.
U15 Regional League West: MSV Duisburg v Bayer 04 U15 1-2
The U15s had to work hard to secure a narrow away win in Duisburg. Playing against a well-organised opponent who kept it very tight at the back, the Leverkusen visitors took the lead in added time in the first half through Alexander Höck (35 +1’).
MSV refused to give up, sought to create chances and succeeded in drawing level at 1-1 in the second half (54’). However, It was clear the Bayer 04 U15s were again full of determination as they went in search of three points.
As in the first half the reward came right at the end when Christopher Scott netted the much celebrated strike to make it 2-1 in the final minute of the game. The U15s have bolstered their third place in the Regional League West with 34 points.
U14 Youth Cup: VfL Bochum v Bayer 04 U14 1-6
The U14s continue their run through the Youth Cup without a problem. The clear victory at Bochum was the 15th win in 16 unbeaten games. Jannis Fissl but the superior visitors on track on three minutes.
Christian Schwierin (19') and Emrehan Gedikli (31') made it 3-0 before the un-cowed Bochum side pulled a goal back on 34 minutes. The Werkself restored the three-goal lead on 40 minutes with a strike from Okan Keskin.
The U14s eased off in the second half but still managed to increase the lead through an own goal on 49 minutes and another strike from Gedikli just before the hour mark to claim a deserved three points.

Without a total of eight international players, coach Roberto Pätzold’s team defeated Bundesliga 2 side Borussia Mönchengladbach 3–1 at the Kurtekotten Training Centre, thanks to goals from Lobke Loonen (1’, penalty), Caroline Kehrer (41') and Valentina Mädl (66').

Our next opponents: Deadly duo on form up front
FSV Mainz 05 went into the international break on the back of an away win at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Currently sixth in the table, the Rheinhessen side – who have been impressive on the road – now aim to continue their good start to the Bundesliga campaign at home when they face the Werkself on Saturday, 10 October (kick-off: 15:30 CEST). In terms of squad selection, Urs Fischer once again has more options at his disposal. BA04 Football Academy Guangzhou visits Leverkusen
Exciting experiences and exclusive insights into the Werkself and the BayArena awaited the young footballers from the BA04 Football Academy Guangzhou in China during their visit to the Rhineland this week. As well as taking part in a joint training session with the Bayer 04 Football Academy, the youngsters marvelled at the Bundesliga club’s stadium during a guided tour. The highlight of the visit was a private press conference with former Bayer 04 striker Stefan Kießling, during which he shared tips from his own career with the young players. On Saturday afternoon, 10 October, the group will round off their visit by supporting the Werkself in the away match in Mainz.
