Matysik and Poland miss out on Euros
The two Bayer 04 Women's team players Sylwia Matysik and the Lara Marti were on international duty in the past few days – both returned to Leverkusen without a win.
A bitter blow for Poland and Sylwia Matysik: The team lost 3-0 to Spain and the missed out on the chance to take part in the 2022 European Championships in England as they finished third in the group on 14 points. A win would have put Poland ahead of second-placed Czech Republic (16 points). Spain were the clear winners of the group with 22 points. Matysik played the full 90 minutes.
For Lara Marti, the Switzerland training camp ended with two friendlies in France. Switzerland lost both games 2-0. Marti played the full game in the first match but was substituted on 67 minutes in the second.

Europa League group phase fixtures confirmed
Bayer 04’s eight opponents in the group stage of the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League have been confirmed. At the draw on Friday 28 August held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, the Werkself were drawn against two opponents from each of the four pots. There are a total of four home and four away matches. Werkself review #ELVB04: ‘Do much, much better next week’
In the 3-2 defeat at Bundesliga newcomers SV 07 Elversberg, the Werkself found the back of the net in the closing stages and, with a bit of luck, could still have equalised. “Today, our play wasn’t good enough, particularly when it came to the basics,” said head coach Carles Martínez.
