DFB Cup: Werkself play Teutonia at the Millerntor Stadium

Details of Bayer 04's tie in the opening round of the 2023/24 DFB Cup have been confirmed. The Werkself play FC Teutonia 05 Ottensen on Saturday 12 August with the kick off at 15.30 CEST. That was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) today. The match against the North Regional League side will be played in Hamburg at the Millerntor Stadium, home to second division FC St. Pauli. Ticket details will be announced in due course.

The match against the Hamburg State Cup winners will be the first competitive match for the Werkself in the coming season. Following the draw, sporting managing director Simon Rolfes talked about an "interesting" draw and at the same time said: "Obviously we will be taking our opponents very seriously particularly looking at our early exit last season. We want to do better this season and go as far as we can."

For Bayer 04 this will be the first competitive match at the stadium in Hamburg, with its capacity of 29,546, since 13 November 2010. Back then the Werkself beat FC St. Pauli 1-0 in the Bundesliga with a late strike from Renato Augusto.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have extended Abdoulaye Faye’s contract by a further year to 30 June 2031. During the 2026/27 season, the talented defender will play for Celta Vigo on loan without an option to buy. Bayer 04 transfer Kerim Alajbegovic to Juventus

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have agreed Kerim Alajbegovic’s transfer to Italian record champions Juventus. The club brought the 18-year-old attacking player back to Leverkusen this summer via a buy-back option, following a season at Red Bull Salzburg. Start of preseason training camp: Werkself arrive in Weimarer Land
