DFB Cup: First round tie in Leipzig on 7 August
The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed the fixture details for the DFB Cup first round.
The Werkself are away to Lokomotive Leipzig on Saturday, 7 August, with the kick off at 15.30 CEST. The venue is the prestigious Bruno Plache Stadium, home ground to the North-east Regional League side and winners of the Saxony Cup. The first round tie with Bayer 04 will be broadcast live on the pay-TV channel Sky.
"An interesting draw'
Simon Rolfes, Bayer 04 sporting director, said after the draw: "An interesting draw as we are up against a club with a great football past. Our aim is clearly to go through to the second round. At the same time, we are obviously hoping for a game with real cup character where the fans of both teams can finally provide an atmosphere again. That's what makes DFB Cup games special. We're looking forward to Leipzig."

“As far as mentality and determination are concerned, we have nothing to reproach ourselves for,” Robert Andrich said up after the first home defeat for the Werkself this term. In terms of their play, too, the Black and Reds put in a respectable performance for long stretches of this intense and physical match, outperforming VfB Stuttgart in most areas. Rudi recounts…: Vollborn November highlights
Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993).
