DFB Cup: Borussia Mönchengladbach in last 16

In a repeat of the recent league fixture, Bayer 04 have been drawn away to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the DFB Cup Round of 16 on 19/20 December. That was the outcome of the draw made by former Germany international Stefan Effenberg at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday, broadcast live on the ARD Sportschau sports programme. The stand-out tie in the last sixteen of the domestic cup competition sees FC Bayern play Borussia Dortmund.

"It's a great draw. The team have already proved they can win there. So we'll go into the tie in confident mood and we definitely want to go through to the next round. On the other hand, we can't afford to doze off in the first half again and we'll have to be wide awake from the start. That would mean we can give our fans an early Christmas present," said Bayer 04 head coach Heiko Herrlich.

Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer 04 faced each other on Bundesliga matchday nine a week ago: The Werkself came from a goal down at half-time to win 5-1, inflicting a sensitive home defeat on Gladbach. Tickets for the Round of 16 tie against on 19/20 December are expected to go on sale at the end of November.

THE DFB CUP Round of 16:

FSV Mainz 05 v VfB Stuttgart
FC Nürnberg v VfL Wolfsburg
Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund
FC Heidenheim v Eintracht Frankfurt
Werder Bremen v SC Freiburg
Borussia Mönchengladbach v Bayer 04
SC Paderborn v FC Ingolstadt
FC Schalke 04 v FC Köln
