Right next to Copenhagen Central Station is a place that is special, nostalgic and exciting at the same time: Tivoli. This amusement park is one of the oldest in the world and yet it is much more than just a fairground. It is a beautiful garden complex, a fairytale setting with nostalgic carousels, modern rollercoasters and a sea of lights that conjures up a magical atmosphere, especially in the evening.
Whether you want adrenaline and go all out on the rollercoaster, or prefer to take it easy by simply strolling through the picturesque gardens and admiring the music pavilions - there's something for everyone here. There are numerous stages with live music and entertainment to keep you entertained. There are also countless food stalls and restaurants offering a wide range of dishes, from traditional Danish snacks to international cuisine. Tivoli is the perfect place to spend a fun afternoon with friends.
If you've ever googled Copenhagen, you've probably come across a picture of the historic Nyhavn port (see title image). The picturesque harbour front with its colourful, age-old gabled houses reflected in the water is the city's landmark. Once a busy trading port full of sailors, Nyhavn is now a picturesque, lively place to stroll around and take photos.
Even though there a lots of cafés there, the real charm of the place lies in its atmosphere, which you can enjoy without having to buy anything. Simply stroll along the canal, admire the old wooden ships and let yourself be carried away by the special flair. Fun fact: The famous fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen also lived here.
An absolute highlight is one of the many canal cruises that start here. In just under an hour, they give you a great overview of the city from the water and show you the most important sights, such as the Little Mermaid and the Opera House. Nyhavn is the perfect place for a great photo and a relaxing stroll.
The third highlight, which shows the historical and magnificent side of the city, is Rosenborg Castle. It is located in the centre of the city and is a real eye-catcher. The fairytale Renaissance castle was built in the early 17th century by the Danish King Christian IV as a pleasure palace.
Today it is a museum that takes visitors back in time. The highlight par excellence are the Danish crown jewels, which are exhibited beneath the castle - a sight you won't forget in a hurry. But the surrounding King’s Garden is also outstanding. It is the oldest and most visited park in Copenhagen and a green oasis of peace. Here you can take a relaxing stroll through the gardens, sit on a bench and soak up the special atmosphere. A perfect place to switch off and take a deep breath.
The Scandinavian country also has a lot to offer musically. Among others, the metal band Volbeat ("Still Counting"), pop singer MØ ("Lean On"), the pop singer Lukas Graham ("7 Years") and the Safri Duo ("Played-A-Live") are at home in Denmark.
