LEDVANCE is Werkself sustainability partner

Bayer 04 Leverkusen go into the 2022/23 season with a new Premium Partner: LEDVANCE is now the official sustainability partner of the Werkself. The agreement with the worldwide leader in general lighting, which initially runs to 2024, includes fitting out all buildings with environmentally-friendly LED technology. In addition, there will be a broad sustainability campaign for the whole Bayer 04 family – involving the senior squad, fans, Women’s and Youth teams as well as all employees.

Looking forward to partnership (l. to r.): Fernando Carro, Dr. Oliver Vogler (Managing Director Europe West), Erol Kirilmaz (Chief Sales and Marketing Director at LEDVANCE) and Rudi Völler.

“Bayer 04 has already engaged with responsible handling of resources for a long time and we are very active particularly in respect of sustainable stadium and matchday management. In LEDVANCE we now have a partner who can perfectly support us on this path with their expertise and products,” said Bayer 04 Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro. The Werkself have introduced hybrid pitches in recent years, brought in reusable mugs and set up electric charging points. “We are delighted to have gained a renowned expert from the lighting sector in LEDVANCE who can reliably implement future-proof reorganisation of our infrastructure.”

One of the first projects will benefit the Bayer 04 Women’s team: The lighting levels of the floodlights at the Ullrich Haberland Stadium will be increased from 500 lux to 800 lux to conform with the level D guidelines from UEFA. The modernisation of the club’s Kurtekotten Performance Centre puts the Youth set-up centre stage and the staff at the offices will benefit from improved lighting and air quality. The installation of human centric lighting, an innovative biodynamic lighting technology, in the weights room and dressing rooms will follow for the first team. The players tunnel and access for VIP guests to the stands will be aesthetically upgraded with the introduction of coloured lighting.

exciting and comprehensive sustainability project

“Being able to implement such an exciting and comprehensive sustainability project for a big club like Bayer 04 Leverkusen fills us with pride,” said Dr Oliver Vogler, Managing Director Europe West at LEDVANCE. “At the same time, we can use the channels and the wide network of Bayer 04 to generate great interest in our innovative and sustainable lighting solutions.”

The whole package will be completed with an information campaign for fans and media: With the “Number of the day”, LEDVANCE will produce useful knowledge from the area of sustainability at matchdays at the BayArena to raise awareness of the subject and to inspire sustainable action including beyond the area of lighting.
