The Welt am Sonntag reports: "You could rub your eyes in disbelief as Leverkusen put on an imposing and dominant performance as rarely before seen in this messed up season from a Bayer perspective. Chicharito (5'), Havertz (32' and 45'), Kießling (72'), Aranguiz (81') and Pohjanpalo (90') had an easy day. The hosts, usually strong at home, did not stand a chance with consolation goals coming from Weiser (72') and Allagui (86')."
For the Bild am Sonntag "Leverkusen celebrated a positive end with the highest win of the season. With an outstanding Kai Havertz (17). The A-level student was able to celebrate his first Bundesliga brace: 'I've never let myself dream of that.' Coach Korkut is leaving. The Leverkusen boss Rudi Völler now begins the search for a new coach."„
The Express raves about the Werkself performance: "What a display! Free from the pressure of avoiding the drop, Bayer thrashed Hertha. At the centre of the action again: Bayer’s new golden boy Kai Havertz! Incredible what the 17-year-old has produced over the past few weeks in spite of the stress of doing his A-levels. The Bayer youngster was one of the best players in Berlin. He crowned his brilliant performance with two great goals. The first Bundesliga double for the school student who next week has to pass his oral examination in mathematics. Havertz is the second youngest player to score a brace in the history of the Bundesliga – only Timo Werner was younger when he netted twice for VfB Stuttgart. Korkut's second win in his twelfth game in charge did have other heroes. Firstly, Chicharito started the flood of goals with his eleventh strike of the season, and secondly Stefan Kießling who rounded off possibly his last game with a goal from the penalty spot. That was his 131st goal in 336 games for Leverkusen. Incredible!"
The Kölner Stadt Anzeiger declares: "After avoiding relegation last week, Bayer 04 Leverkusen were able to play the last game of the season at Hertha BSC without any pressure. And the team were very convincing. The eleven players chosen by the departing coach Tayfun Korkut put on a blistering display in the first half and secured a deserved 6-2 victory in the capital to end a disappointing season with a successful finish. ... Bayer 04 put an end to a poor run of six games without a win and showed the potential in this young team."
The online edition of the Rheinische Post reports:"Although there was considerably more at stake for Hertha BSC compared with the visitors from the Rhine, it was Bayer 04 who had the upper hand from the first minute."
The Kicker draws the following conclusion: "It developed into a flowing encounter between two teams who both sought to play on the front foot. However, Leverkusen were much better than the Old Lady who made some unfamiliar defensive errors .… It appeared the Berliners were unable to cope with the level of expectation and the resulting pressure .... The final turning point of the game came when Darida ran into the back of Aranguiz in his own penalty area and referee Deniz Aytekin pointed to the spot: Kießling stepped up to coolly convert the penalty and that took the life out of the game on 64 minutes but not the fun. At 4-0, concentration levels dropped on both sides. ... Pohjanpalo rounded off proceedings – also having come off the bench – with the last move of the game that saw his header make it a half-dozen and complete the scoring at 6-2 on 90 minutes. Bayer ended a run of poor results of six games without a win in succession and bade farewell to coach Tayfun Korkut with a win."
