…the personnel situation: "None of our players who were in action against Zürich yesterday have had any after-effects that could mean they would not be available for the Leipzig game on Sunday. That also applies to Wendell."
…Charles Aránguiz: "After being out injured for many months, it was a huge step forward for Charly to play for 60 minutes yesterday. We don't know definitively what his fitness level is. It's absolutely clear he feels tired today. But more important and decisive is the fact that there has been no reaction in his knee. That gives me hope. I can't yet answer the question as to whether it would be sensible for him to start on Sunday – we'll decide how far he has come after tomorrow's final training session. Above all, I'm happy he's back and you could see yesterday how valuable he is to the team."
…Karim Bellarabi: "With Karim (suffering with muscular problems, ed.) there is a slight risk. But the doctors and I are optimistic he can be available again for Sunday. We'll only be able to provide a 100 per cent answer tomorrow after the training session."
…memories of last season's 4-1 win at Leipzig: "It's not that long ago that our players can't remember well that we won at Leipzig – even if we didn't really believe we're capable of it the time and perhaps the winning margin was a little too high. But we are going there again to get a result."
…Leipzig's style of play: "Their approach is almost identical to ours, they play high up the pitch, are incredibly good on the break and win a lot of possession in the opposition half. Moreover, they have the best record in the league with eight goals scored within ten seconds of gaining possession. Last season we succeeded in overcoming that. But, of course, we know all about their stats: Ahead of yesterday's Europa League game against Celtic (1-2, ed.) they had gone six games on the bounce without conceding – they are very solid against the ball. As in yesterday's game against Zürich it will be our aim to keep it tight and not concede."
…targets in the league up to Christmas: "It's clear we need to make up ground and that we want and have to get a result to keep in touch. There is no exact target in terms of how many points we'd like to have before the winter break. We take it game by game and are fully focused on the Leipzig match on Sunday."
…on the pluses and minuses of international breaks: "I can't say if these interruptions to the league programme are annoying because I've accepted it from the start. I don't think about it because the timetable is set and I can't change it. I accept it as is. Why should I waste time and energy on that? We knew from the start that we have lots of games and lots of weeks full of fixtures, which at times means a tight programme of matches where we have to be fully fit to be able complete it. And we also knew we'd have time during the international breaks. But this interruption is not a real break. We will use the time to work through things with the players left behind and prepare for the next game."
The second international break of the 2025/26 season will begin after the Bundesliga match against Union Berlin (Saturday, 4 October, 15:30 CEST). The latest information on call-ups.
