Leverkusen and Frankfurt have met 79 times before in the Bundesliga and are yet to play out a 0-0 draw. No other fixture in the league’s history has been played that often without at least one goalless encounter. In fact, none of the last 20 meetings have ended in a stalemate, producing 13 Werkself wins to seven for Eintracht.
The last four have all gone the way of Bayer 04, which is the team’s best ongoing winning streak against a current Bundesliga club. The reverse fixture was a 2-1 victory at the BayArena and one of just five defeats in the league this term for Frankfurt, who are enjoying their best season in several decades with 42 points from 23 games, just shy of their club record of 43 (using three points for a win) in both 1978/79 and 1989/90.
Frankfurt are in the midst of a run of big fixtures. Last weekend they were beaten 4-0 at Bayern Munich, today they welcome the champions, and next Thursday they go to Amsterdam for the first leg of their UEFA Europa League last-16 tie against Ajax. It’s a pivotal period on both the domestic and European front for an Eintracht side who have impressed this season with their attacking and high-speed football. They boast the third-best attack in the division after 23 matchdays with 49 goals scored, behind Bayern (69) and Leverkusen (51). That’s despite a number of changes in their front line this year. We go into more detail in our in-depth analysis HERE.
Some 5,200 fans are making the trip from Leverkusen to support the team in Frankfurt. The Bayer 04 Fan Liaison team have as usual put together information for all travelling supporters HERE.
The German FA (DFB) have appointed Felix Zwayer to oversee this game. The 43-year-old has previously taken charge of 35 fixtures involving the Werkself (W18, D8, L9). His assistants are Robert Kemper and Christian Dietz; the VAR is Bastian Dankert.

The Werkself beat Olympiacos 2-0 in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League play-off first leg to claim a crucial victory in the Greek capital. After a focused first-half display with a number of presentable chances, Patrik Schick crowned a textbook counter to hand the Werkself the lead on the hour (60’). The Czech rounded off his brace when he headed in from a corner just 144 seconds later. Bayer 04 maintained their lead with aplomb to achieve a good position for the return leg in Leverkusen.

Bayer 04 and Olympiacos had only met twice before the current UEFA Champions campaign. After the encounter on Matchday 7 of this season’s league phase, the Werkself travel to face the Greek side for the second time in just four weeks for the knockout play-off first leg. The Black and Reds were dominant for large spells in mid-January but lost 2-0 after missing a number of presentable chances. The Werkself aim to do better on Wednesday night to “seize the chance for revenge,” as managing director sport Simon Rolfes put it. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our matchday news.

A bitter end to the fifth showdown of the 2025/26 VBL Club Championship as the #B04eSports team failed to take any points in the three remaining matches of the preliminary online round of the fifth and final showdown, missing out on the offline round. They can no longer take points in the overall table. Bayer 04 slipped out on the top eight, so direct participation in the final event for the German Club Championship is no longer possible, with Bayer 04 having to contest the play-offs.
