Bayer 04 are unbeaten in their last five league games against Wolfsburg. Leverkusen won both meetings last season, including a first home win against VfL since 2016.
The Wolves, meanwhile, haven't beaten the reigning German champions since January 2015 (4-1 at home to Bayern Munich). Since then, they've collected just two points from 18 of these fixtures. Their last away win against the champions came in December 2012 (3-2 at Dortmund).
When it comes to duels, there are few teams who can match the Lower Saxony side. Wolfsburg are relying on a physical, aggressive and tough-tackling style of play again this season. This robust approach is not least reflected by their 10 yellow cards from three games. VfL are lacking precision in other areas, though. Ralph Hasenhüttl's side rank quite lowly when it comes to shooting and crossing accuracy, while their pass completion and chance conversion rates also require improvement. The German Football Association (DFB) has assigned Sascha Stegemann for this fixture. The 39-year-old referee has taken charge of five competitive games involving the Werkself to date. Assisting Stegemann today are Christof Günsch and Christian Gittelmann on the sidelines and Benjamin Cortus as the VAR.
Today's match is being broadcast live on DAZN in Germany and on Sky in the UK. As ever, there's also live text and radio commentary via bayer04.de and the Bayer 04 app (in German).

After eight years in the youth set-up at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Benjamin Adam is leaving the club. The 35-year-old, who most recently coached the Leverkusen U17s, will take charge of the Hansa Rostock U19 team next season.

A fresh look for the BayArena: The Bayer 04 stadium will have new seating in the form of folding seats for the 2026/27 campaign that will ensure significantly improved seating comfort and simplified movement within the rows of seats. As part of routine replacement after 17 years, fans of the Werkself were able to purchase the existing seats, used to witness the first German league title in the club's history. In addition, a large proportion of the seats will be donated to charitable projects, primarily in the local region. Bayer 04 fans can look forward to new, functional folding seats for the season opener at the beginning of August - still in the club colours of black and red, of course. A glimpse at the BayArena during the refurbishment.
