Bayer 04 and VfL Wolfsburg have faced each other 55 times. For the Black and Reds there have been 24 wins plus ten draws and 21 defeats. None of the last 14 Bundesliga matches between Leverkusen and the Wolves has ended in a home win. The Werkself are unbeaten in the last seven Bundesliga away games in Lower Saxony picking up 17 out of a possible 21 points (five wins, two draws).
The Black and Reds are away to the Wolves today with VfL unbeaten at home this season. They have yet to drop a point on their own ground in the Bundesliga and have clocked up three wins to date. The team from Lower Saxony have impressed at the Volkswagen Arena in attack and defence. Striker Jonas Wind, with seven goals so far, has scored five times in three home games and the defence has only conceded one goal on their own turf.
The strength of VfL at home contrasts with three defeats in four away games that puts Wolfsburg seventh in the table. Nevertheless, it is a decent start to the season for the team from Lower Saxony. Further information on VfL is in our lowdown on the next opponents.
There will be a minute's silence before the start of today's game due to the current events in the Middle East. Both teams will wear black armbands.
The German Football Association (DFB) has appointed Marco Fritz as the man in the middle for the clash at the Volkswagen Arena. The 46-year-old referee has previously been in charge of 22 games involving the Werkself that produced eleven wins, four draws and seven defeats. He will be assisted by Dominik Schaal and Marcel Pelgrim on the touchlines and Johann Pfeiffer is the VAR official.
