Bosz ahead of BVB game: Get a result with 'good football'

The stats promise goals: In the previous 82 meetings between Bayer 04 and Borussia Dortmund there have been an average of 3.09 goals per game. Seven of those came in the last encounter, with the Werkself winning 4-3 in front of a capacity crowd at the BayArena in February 2020. Head coach Peter Bosz spoke of a "cracker" looking back on Monday but said his main focus is on the forthcoming clash.

"Other players were involved then and BVB had a different coach. So it will be a completely different game," declared the Dutchman head of the home game matchday 17 against his former club on Tuesday night, 19 January (kick-off: 20.30 CET/live on Sky and on Werks11 Radio at bayer04.de or on the Bayer 04 app). To come out on top against the level on points Borussia, who won their last away game 3-1 in Leipzig, Peter Bosz is demanding from the team and himself "good football. As that will bring back the good results."

The Werkself head coach is expecting "a different game" compared with previous meetings. Bosz: "In previous games, Dortmund have always played from a defensive set-up. Recently there have been increasingly been playing further forward. I'm expecting an open game tomorrow – with more space available to us than has been the case recently."

Fosu-Mensah unavailable against Dortmund

The skipper Charles Aránguiz will be in the squad against Dortmund. After three months out injured, care will still be taken with the Chilean. "He's on the right track and it's great to see him back on the pitch," Bosz explained.

Sven Bender and Karim Bellarabi are also back on the pitch; the duo are working on their own at the moment and are not an option for the game against BVB. Also, winter signing Timothy Fosu-Mensah will not be in the squad. Bosz: "He trained for the first time yesterday. The match has come too early for him." It remains to be seen whether youngster Florian Wirtz will return.

Bosz: "No easy games"

The Werkself are still in third place despite four league matches without a win. For head coach Bosz this is a sign, " that there are no easy games in the Bundesliga." Each game is therefore of great significance. The 56-year-old rounded off: "The only thing that matters to us are our own results."
