Hard to believe but true! The previous 65 meetings in the Bundesliga between Bayer 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt have yet to produce a goalless draw – and in that number of matches it is unique in Germany's top flight. Those games have seen the Werkself win 29, draw 13 and lose 23. Bayer 04 have won four out of the last five encounters including a 1-0 victory when the teams met earlier in the season. And the last two of these fixtures played at home have turned out well for Leverkusen with both ending in 3-0 wins for the Werkself. Eintracht have not achieved much successin this fixture over the last seven years. To be more exact they have collected four points – with a goal difference of 4 to 16 (one win, one draw, five defeats).
Watch out! Frankfurt are not only having their best season in 24 years despite losing their last four away games. The Werkself have produced mixed performances at home recently – particularly since the winter break (two wins, one draw, three defeats). In total, Heiko Herrlich's team have picked up 23 points at the BayArena (22 – 15 goals). Hopefully there will be another three points to come against Frankfurt. The impressive goal haul for the Black and Reds against the Red,Black and Whites gives cause for optimism: Bayer 04 have scored at least one goal in all of the last eight matches and have only failed to find the back of the net twice in the previous 33 games.
The match will be refereed by Dr. Felix Brych and his assistants Mark Borsch and Stefan Lupp. For the internationally experienced referee and multiple 'Referee of the Year', it will be the second time he has officiated in the match involving Bayer 04 with the 41-year-old in charge for the 2-1 away win for the Werkself at Hamburg on matchday 23. Brych, who has refereed in the Bundesliga since 2004 and has officiated for FIFA since 2007, will be the man in the middle for the 32nd Bundesliga match involving the Werkself. In those fixtures, the Werkself have won 19 games, drawn five, lost seven and picked up 41 yellow and three red cards. In 2007/2008 the lawyer was in charge for the league fixture between Bayer 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt. The Werkself lost that match 2-1
Following the red card against FC Köln and the associated three-match ban, Heiko Herrlich will only have to manage once more without Lucas Alario in this weekend's game against Frankfurt. Lars Bender is also in danger of the ban. The captain has already received four yellow cards and another would mean he would miss the next match.
After Kevin Volland scored his 50th goal in the top flight in his 50th league match for Leverkusen against Leipzig on Monday, Kai Havertz is set to reach another milestone. If Havertz, who has made 25 appearances so far this season with three goals and seven assists, plays against Eintracht Frankfurt it would be the 50th Bundesliga game for the forward – at the age of 18 years and 307 days he would be the youngest player in the history of the league to reach that target.
As with all home games, the Schwadbud in the East Stand at the BayArena will open two hours before kick-off for Bayer 04 fans to get in the mood for the 90 minutes of action amongst like-minded supporters. About one hour before kick-off there is the traditional discussion where well-known figures from the club exchange their views and opinions. This time it is the two former pros Marcus Feinbier (48) and Daniel Galic (43). Feinbier made 80 appearances for Bayer 04 between 1987 and 1993 scoring three goals along the way. Galic came through the youth teams at Bayer 04 before moving on to play for Yurdumsport Köln. Both now play for the Bayer 04 Veterans team.
Another Werkself tradition for Bundesliga home games is for well-known guests to call in at the Schwadbud after the final whistle to discuss events on the pitch with stadium announcer Tobias Ufer, fan liaison officer Rüdiger Vollborn or Frank Linde plus a fan. This time Jonathan Tah is the guest at the #W11Fantalk. If you have any questions for the Werkself number four, it was recently agreed a contract extension, please submit them on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #W11Fantalk. The discussion will be broadcast live – It kicks off at 18.15 CET.

This evening was deeply moving: At a really special setting, Bayer 04 exclusively presented the specially produced documentary ‘Fierté Burkinabè’ ("Burkinabe Pride") about Edmond Tapsoba on Tuesday. For the preview at the BayArena, the parents of the Werkself player and other close companions travelled all the way from his African homeland Burkina Faso. The 45-minute film shows Tapsoba's extraordinary career from his beginnings in Ouagadougou to Leverkusen as well as the work of his foundation "Fondation Edmond Tapsoba", with representatives from Burkina Faso also present. Fans can watch the documentary free of charge on Werkself TV and YouTube from Wednesday night at 20:00 CEST.
