Saxons on course for a record
Leipzig are the only team to win the last five matches. Before RB, only MSV Duisburg avoided defeat in the first eleven games of the season as a newly promoted team back in 1993/94 – that run ended on matchday eleven with a 4-1 defeat away to Borussia Mönchengladbach. If Leipzig avoid defeat at the BayArena tonight then they will set a new Bundesliga record.
Strong at the BayArena and against newcomers
The Werkself have been very successful against newly promoted teams: Bayer 04 have only lost one of the last eleven Bundesliga matches against newcomers (seven wins, three draws): a 1-0 defeat against Darmstadt 98 on matchday four in the 2015/16 campaign.
And the Werkself are certainly hard to beat in front of their own fans at the BayArena: Leverkusen have only lost one of the last ten Bundesliga home games (eight wins, one draw) - that was a 3-0 defeat on 22 October against TSG Hoffenheim.
RB solid away from home
Two other statistics highlight the incredible run Leipzig have enjoyed: Leipzig are top of the away form table with eleven points – ahead of Bayern Munich on ten points (four away games). That makes Leipzig the first club promoted to the top flight in this century who have not lost any of their first five away matches (previously SC Freiburg in 1998/99). RB have the equal second best defence with just seven goals conceded (as have FC Köln) and that is one less than the league leaders Bayern Munich (six). The men from Leipzig also have the most shots on goal so far this term (21). Never before has a newly promoted team conceded so few goals in the first ten games.
Leipzig like taking the lead
Leipzig opened the scoring against Mainz to go 1-0 up for the ninth time in succession in the Bundesliga. They only went behind in the first match of the season in a 2-2 draw away to TSG Hoffenheim. The Saxons have only been behind for 10 minutes - the best return in the Bundesliga. On the other hand, Bayer 04 have already turned round three games in the Bundesliga this season. No other team has done that more often in 2016/17. Nine points won from losing positions is the highest number in the league..
A long, long time ago
RB coach Ralph Hasenhüttl met the Werkself as a player almost 20 years ago: In 1997 the burly centre forward, playing for the Belgian club Lierse SK, lost both Champions League games against Bayer 04 (0-1 and 0-2). As the Ingolstadt coach, the Austrian lost both games against Leverkusen last season (0-1 and 2-3).
Tickets available on the night
Tickets, starting at €29 (concessions €19 and €9 for children), are still available for the home game against Leipzig on the night from the ticket offices at the BayArena.

Bayer 04 put in a brilliant performance to beat RB Leipzig 4-1 on Bundesliga matchday 32 and are now fourth in a Champions League spot. The Black and Reds took control of the game right from the start and, with 75 per cent possession at one stage, took a 2-0 lead into the break through Patrik Schick (25’) and Nathan Tella (45+1’). The visitors initially tried to do more after the break, but the Werkself remained determined and Schick scored his second goal to increase the lead to 3-0 (76'). The Red Bulls pulled a goal back through Christoph Baumgartner (80'), but the disciplined Leverkusen side were not rattled - and certainly not Schick: The Czechia international crowned a brilliant display with his third goal shortly before the final whistle to make the final score 4-1.

In the previous game against RB Leipzig in December last year, the Werkself turned came from behind to win 3-1 and further improved Leverkusen's already strong record against the Red Bulls. Montrell Culbreath stood out with his first goal on his debut for the Black and Reds. While the 18-year-old would certainly like to score a second goal against Leipzig on Saturday night, the attack-minded visitors come to the BayArena in confident mood after five Bundesliga victories in a row. The Nordkurve12 supporters group knows the Werkself will therefore once again be reliant on the vociferous support of the fans, and has once again called for the ‘Finally Red’ campaign in the run-in.
