Atmosphere under floodlights
There's always a very special atmosphere when the floodlights are on at the BayArena. It also affects the players on the pitch. "With the floodlights on, you get more of an impression of being on stage. You can hardly see the supporters but you can hear them more clearly. The whole atmosphere of a floodlit match is a bit more exciting than a game on a Saturday afternoon," said Julian Brandt.
Numbers speak for themselves
FC Augsburg and Bayer 04 meet for the eleventh time in the Bundesliga with the Swabians yet to register a victory. After seven defeats for FCA the two teams have drawn the last three matches.
First point after three-goal deficit
Augsburg came close to victory in the last match on 5 March 2016 when Koo hit a hat-trick to put his team 3-0 up on the hour mark. However, Bayer 04 fought back to gain a point for the first time in the Bundesliga after being three goals down with the match ending all square at 3-3..
Third place in spite of poor start
Just three points after three matches: The last time Bayer 04 made a similar start to a Bundesliga campaign was in 2012/13 but the Werkself finished third at the end of the season.
Fortress BayArena
The Werkself have won their last six Bundesliga home matches – the last time that happened was a year ago when they won seven home games in succession.
Goals guaranteed
Bayer 04 have scored in each of the last 15 Bundesliga fixtures and that is the longest current run in the league. All three Augsburg goals this term have been scored by defenders. Konstantinos Stafylidis (two) and Jeffrey Gouweleeuw were the goalscorers.
Midweek success
Advantage Leverkusen: the Werkself have won nine of the last ten Bundesliga matches played on Tuesday or Wednesday and Augsburg have lost eight out of nine Bundesliga matches played midweek.
Hitz hit
Marwin Hitz went into the Bundesliga record books in February 2015 when he scored in added time against Leverkusen to level at 2-2. With his goal, Hitz became only the third goalkeeper to score in the Bundesliga other than from the penalty spot.
Old friends
The Augsburg players Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker, Konstantinos Stafylidis and Dominik Kohr all played for the Werkself in the past. Callsen-Bracker and Kohr are ruled out of tonight's match at the BayArena due to injury.
