Wirtz trains ahead of #B04FCU – Rolfes on 'huge motivation' going into run-in

In preparation for the Bundesliga home game against Union Berlin (Saturday, 12 April, 15:30 CEST) an open training session was held on Tuesday afternoon in front of a large number of Bayer 04 fans. Florian Wirtz completed large parts of the team training session. Sporting managing director Simon Rolfes, who spoke to the media after the training, was happy about the return of the playmaker and he also stated: "Flo is a special player for our team."

In pleasant spring temperatures, Wirtz and Co. started the session with passing drills in confined spaces in small groups and that was followed by a practice match on half the pitch. The 21-year-old then completed individual dribbling and shooting drills.

The Werkself players as usual took time out after the strenuous session to satisfy requests from the many Bayer 04 fans present for autographs and photos.

Rolfes: "we are a better team with Mit Flo"

Following the open training session, sporting managing director Simon Rolfes said: "We are very happy Flo is back with us. He's a special player for our team. He will be fully reintegrated this week. And we are confident he will be able to play at the weekend."

Rolfes added: "With or without Flo, I'm assuming we will produce a different attacking game against Union Berlin on Saturday compared with recent performances. But, of course, Florian can often find a different solution to situations. We are a better team with him."

Rolfes on "exciting Phase" to the end of the season

The home game against Union Berlin is the first of the remaining six Bundesliga fixtures this season. Rolfes: "We have an exciting phase ahead of us and something is always possible provided it's not done and dusted. Looking at this season you can't forget the team is having the second best season in the club's history. So we have huge motivation to turn this campaign into a top season. That's our target."
