The Brazilian offensive player will undergo an operation in Innsbruck on Friday led by Professor Christian Fink. "It's an incredible shame and almost tragic that Paulinho cannot be part of the highlight of the season in Berlin and also misses the Europa League in August," said sporting director Simon Rolfes. "His bad injury gives us even more motivation to win the cup at the weekend for him as well. We wish him every strength and a quick recovery."
Paulinho was signed in the summer of 2018 from the Brazilian top-flight club Vasco De Gama. The midfielder made 19 appearances for the Werkself this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Bayer 04 Women moved up to third place in the Bundesliga table, overnight at least, thanks to a commanding 4-2 win away at Carl Zeiss Jena on Sunday afternoon. After 37 games and two and a half years, the Werkself finally lost away from home in the Bundesliga. Kasper Hjulmand and his team were extremely self-critical after the 3-0 defeat to unbeaten league leaders Bayern Munich, but they were not demoralised. “We made too many mistakes in defence in certain phases of the first half.
