The magnificent seven – #B04SGE stands for spectacular

Goals galore: There has recently been a lot to marvel at whenever Bayer 04 have entertained Eintracht Frankfurt at the BayArena – wonder goals, hat tricks and club records are all there. The Werkself have won their last seven home games against the side from Hessen with a goals ratio of 27 to 4 – a review of the magnificent seven.

The Black and Reds have picked up maximum points since the 2015/16 season whenever Eintracht Frankfurt came to Leverkusen. A second round tie in the DFB Cup is included alongside six Bundesliga fixtures. Four clashes in Germany's top flight have been played on one of the final four matchdays at the business end of the season. The same applies today on Monday 2 May when the Seoane team meet Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 32. We look back at the seven home wins.

Bundesliga 2020/21, matchday 31: B04 vs. SGE (3-1)

In the previous meeting of the teams in Leverkusen, the Werkself under caretaker coach Hannes Wolf ran out 3-1 winners. Leon Bailey opened the scoring on 70 minutes with a shot from a tight angle and he set up the second goal of the night scored by Lucas Alario ten minutes later. André Silva pulled a goal back for Frankfurt (90') before Kerem Demirbay made it 3-1 in added time. Bayer 04 qualified for the Europa League at the end of the season.

DFB Cup 2020/21, Round 2: B04 vs. SGE (4-1)

The Black and Reds levelled on 27 minutes when Alario converted a penalty after Amin Younes gave the visitors an early lead (6’). An offside goal by Edmond Tapsoba (49') turned the game round as Bayer 04 took the lead. The goal counted as VAR was only used from the Round of 16. Moussa Diaby sealed the victory with a brace (67', 87') to put the Bosz team through to the last 16.

Bundesliga 2019/20, matchday 25: B04 vs. SGE (4-0)

SGE visited Bismarckstraße before the coronavirus pandemic led to a suspension of the Bundesliga. But the visitors from Hessen again left empty-handed. The Werkself produced an outstanding performance that got the crowd off their seats at times. Forward Paulinho was the man of the match. After Kai Havertz (4') and Karim Bellarabi (14') put the home side ahead early on, the Brazilian striker netted a brace (49', 55') in the second half on his first start in the Bundesliga before taking a bow to the North Stand.

Bundesliga 2018/19, matchday 32: B04 vs. SGE (6-1)

The final scoreline of 6-1 was on the scoreboard after 36 minutes. In front of a full house, Bayer 04 gave the Frankfurt team no chance on that night. Havertz put the ball past Kevin Trapp to open the scoring on two minutes. Julian Brandt then doubled the lead (13'). Filip Kostic (14') briefly put the visitors back in touch before Alario (23', 34') and Charles Aránguiz (28') found the back of the net. Frankfurt central defender Martin Hinteregger also scored an own goal (36'). If the Werkself had not eased off it could have been an absolute nightmare for the visitors who did reach the semi-finals of the Europa League but tailed off in the final straight of the league title race.

Bundesliga 2017/18, matchday 30: B04 vs. SGE (4-1)

The Saturday afternoon fixture was evenly balanced at the start. Brandt headed Bayer 04 into the lead (20') before the Eagles levelled three minutes later through Marco Fabian. The match then rather lost its way but ended in spectacular fashion. Striker Kevin Volland moved up a gear later on and he hit Eintracht with a hat-trick within 17 minutes (71', 76', 88',).

Bundesliga 2016/17, matchday 20: B04 vs. SGE (3-0)

The Black and Reds got off to a flying start again. Chicharito (5') converted the first chance of the game to put his team ahead. A hard-fought match then saw chances at both ends. It was the Mexican superstar in the Werkself ranks who then stood out. Chicharito rifled a cross from Bellarabi into the back of the Frankfurt net from eight yards out on 63 minutes. Eintracht failed to get back on terms on several occasions before Volland rounded off the scoring at 3-0 on 78 minutes.

Bundesliga 2015/16, matchday 30: B04 vs. SGE (3-0)

Bayer 04 took control of the game from the start; the Frankfurt defence remained solid and gave little away. The Werkself had 68% possession in the first half but failed to convert that superiority into goals. The match took off in the second half. Substitute Kevin Kampl hit a volley from 20 yards out with his first touch of the ball on 70 minutes. His shot flew into the bottom left corner of the net. Frankfurt refused to give up but were unable to beat Bernd Leno in the Werkself goal on that Saturday. The Bayer 04 keeper set a new club record in that match when he went 507 minutes without conceding a goal and he went on to further extend that record. Bellarabi (76') and Aránguiz (90') netted goals two and three in the final stages of the game.

For anybody wanting to witness the next spectacular encounter, tickets are available from the Bayer 04 ticket shop.
