The award, presented by the German Football League (DFL), will be presented at a meeting of all head groundsmen in September.
Since the 2013/14 season, the DFL has presented the Pitch of the Year award to promote the quality of pitches in Germany's top two leagues. The demands on pitch quality and the make-up of the pitches are constantly increasing. With this award, the DFL is supporting the continuous development in the quality profile of stadium pitches.
Bayer 04 will have to manage without attacking midfielder Martin Terrier for the time being. The Frenchman sustained a muscle injury to his left hamstring yesterday, Thursday 15 October, during the Europa League game against Polish champions Lech Poznan (4–0). Terrier is not expected to be available until late December.
