‘Rudi recounts’…: Vollborn on Bayer 04 April highlights

Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for nearly 40 years, he has the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Cup (1993). And the Berliner stayed with the Werkself after ending his impressive playing career as he worked as a goalkeeping coach for the following nine years. Vollborn now works under the Bayer Cross as a fan liaison officer and club archivist. From February 2021, the personalised Black and Red lexicon takes Werkself fans under the heading of 'Rudi recounts...' on a small trip through the history of Bayer 04 every month...

Vollborn looks back at goals, matches, personalities and stories away from the pitch from the Bayer 04 club history. For the month of April, the Leverkusen legend includes highly interesting TV-highlights of a defensive battle against the Royal Blues and the biggest Bundesliga home win to date.

At the U19 European Championship in Wales, the Germany U19 national team lost their third and final group match 4-0 to Spain. Diagnostics and training: Bayer 04 Women with new faces start pre-season

At the end of June, Bayer 04 became the first team in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga to begin their pre-season preparations. As well as training sessions at the Kurtekotten facility, the players under coach Roberto Pätzold completed the customary series of performance diagnostics. Bundesliga fixtures 2026/27: First home match vs. Union Berlin

The German Football League (DFL) has published the full fixture list for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season. Following Bayer 04's previously announced opening match away to newly-promoted SV 07 Elversberg, the Werkself's first home match of the new league season is against 1. FC Union Berlin. The 34th and final Bundesliga fixture is on 22 May 2027 at 15:30 CEST away to last season's Bundesliga 2 champions Schalke 04.
