The Werkself have a chance to make history against FC Bayern, the Bayer 04 Women are in the DFB Cup semi-finals and FC Saarbrücken are selling virtual tickets: the news in brief on matchday.

BayArena Aktuell available online

Even though Werkself fans have to watch the Bayern Munich game from the sofa, they can still get the key pre-match information ahead of kick-off as usual. As with the home game against VfL Wolfsburg (1-4), the match magazine BayArena Aktuell is available as an ePaper. What do we need to know about the opponents? ‘Spieltag – Die Show’ with Zé Roberto

Once again, fans can get in the mood for today’s game 30 minutes before kick-off. From 15.00 CET, the Bayer 04 matchday broadcast ‘Spieltag – Die Show’ will be live on YouTube. The guest for the virtual interview at the Schwadbud: Former Bayer 04 and FC Bayern midfielder Zé Roberto. The 45-year-old is crossing his fingers for the Black and Reds. “My heart’s with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday,” said the Brazilian. Ahead of kick-off, Dirk Maverick will be singing the club song from home. That will be followed by the Werkself Radio match commentary.

Experience with the whistle

Manuel Gräfe is in charge of today’s top game. The referee has been the man in the middle for 26 Werkself games with Bayer 04 clocking up 15 wins, four draws and seven defeats. In those 26 games, Gräfe has issued 48 yellow and seven red cards against Bayer 04.

Historic opportunity against Bayern

3-1 and 2-1 – the last two league games against the record champions have been impressive. Bailey, Volland, Alario and Tah have fond memories of scoring against Bayern Munich. Will there be a repeat today? Three wins on the bounce would be a new record for the Werkself.

‘Virtual tickets’ for the cup semi-final

Even though the DFB Cup semi-final against FC Saarbrücken is to be played behind closed doors, fans can still be there – at least virtually. FCS are selling virtual tickets now. The income will be used to support their youth teams. Tickets are available from 5 euros at the Saarbrücken web shop.

Women with final chance

Thanks to the outstanding 3-2 win after extra time against Hoffenheim, the Bayer 04 Women went through to the DFB Cup semi-finals. The team coached by Achim Feifel will play SGS Essen. The kick-off at Kurtekotten is on Wednesday, 10 June at 16.00 CET. The final will on 4 July at the Rhein Energie Stadium in Cologne.

Standing on the pitch where the Werkself players perform - for many Bayer 04 club members, this wish became reality at this year's Members' kickabout. Around 400 active participants of all ages took the opportunity to experience the BayArena from a new and special perspective. And there was also plenty going on in the stands: The event attracted more than 1,000 visitors in total and provided an atmospheric end to the season.

Season review 2025/26, part II: Highs and lows of an eventful season

Lying third in the Bundesliga, the Werkself made a faltering start in 2026 after the winter break, but gradually rediscovered winning ways and, as in the previous campaign, were among the top 16 in Europe and the top four in the DFB Pokal. In the Bundesliga, the Werkself also remained in the race for Champions League qualification right to the end. However, because setbacks repeatedly crept into the Werkself's performances between good displays and crucial games, it was not quite enough to secure a UCL spot in the end. Rogier Meijer leaves Bayer 04 to join Sparta Rotterdam as head coach

Rogier Meijer is leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen and returning to his native Netherlands: The 44-year-old will take over at Eredivisie club Sparta Rotterdam on 1 July. Meijer has been part of the Werkself coaching set-up since the start of the 2025/26 season - first as assistant coach to Erik ten Hag, then on Kasper Hjulmand's staff.

2025/26 season review, part I: Upheaval, change, euphoria

Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction.
