The two Leverkusen clubs Bayer 04 and TuS 04 have plans for a Leverkusen sports park. The local authority needs the area of the old 'Am Stadtpark' stadium on Walter-Nernst-Straße to build a girls grammar school and offers Bayer 04 in exchange the land in the Dhünn valley between Wiesdorf/Manfort and Küppersteg.

The new stadium is to have a capacity of 25,000 and provides a new home for athletes and handball players as well as footballers with the handball players playing in Bayer 04's small neighbouring stadium but they can use the bigger stadium for large events. The Bayer 04 stadium is opened on 2 August 1958, a year later than planned, and is the home ground for our football players to this day.
