Michelle Böhmke appointed director of the Talent House

Following the start of construction on the Talent House in mid-August, an important staffing decision has been made: Michelle Böhmke will join the project team on 1 January 2027 and take over as director when the centre opens, which is planned for summer 2027. The 36-year-old former SGS Essen player previously worked, amongst other roles, as educational director and academy school head at Hertha Berlin.

Simon Rolfes, Bayer 04 managing director sport, sees Böhmke as “the ideal candidate for this role. With her many years’ experience in the field of education, particularly as a manager at a youth academy, Michelle Böhmke will play a decisive role in shaping the development and educational focus of the Talent House.”

Böhmke studied social work/social pedagogy at bachelor’s level and social management at master’s level. At the same time, she worked as an educational director at Jugendhilfe Essen gGmbH, at the SC Paderborn 07 youth academy and at Forum Paderborner Spitzensport gGmbH. Böhmke subsequently worked as school director at Hertha Berlin. Until the end of the year, the Essen-born former player will continue to work in the educational sector at Kolping Jugendwohnen and at VfL Bochum 1848.

About the Talent House:

Not far from the Kurtekotten Training Centre, a new home for 36 young athletes aged between 14 and 18 is being built in Leverkusen, between the Löwenburg nursery and Elisabeth-Langgässer-Straße: The Talent House . This is for footballers, as well as young people from other team sports, athletics and parasport. They will live together in residential groups, supported by teachers. A programme developed in consultation with the Youth Welfare Office enables targeted support for the young people. In each residential group, they will have designated support staff to assist them.
