And the Werkself put on a show. The Eintracht defence had no answer up against the attacking whirlwind of Peter Bosz's team, who were really enjoying themselves. Kai Havertz gave them a 1-0 lead as early as the second minute. Eleven minutes later, Julian Brandt increased the advantage to 2-0, but the visitors immediately got one back. However, this goal did nothing to change the fact that only one team was playing in the first half - and that was the Werkself.

Kevin Volland and Wendell each had a great chance before Lucas Alario restored the two-goal cushion with a header in the 24th minute. Five minutes later, Charles Aránguiz increased the lead to 4-1.
And as the Werkself did not let up, Alario got a fifth in the 34th minute. An own goal two minutes later was both the half-time and the final score.
