Lars Bender: R and R after knee operation

Bayer 04 Leverkusen will have to manage without Lars Bender for the immediate future. In the Bundesliga home game against VfL Wolfsburg at the end of January, the long-serving captain of the Werkself suffered a muscle injury and crushing of the right lateral meniscus that developed into a tear.

In an operation performed last Friday, 19 February, a resection was carried out and part of the affected structure removed. The return of the 31-year-old to the training ground appears to be a realistic possibility at the end of March after the international break.
