Kevin Volland faces long lay-off
2016 is over for Germany international Kevin Volland in terms of playing football. The 24-year-old striker suffered a complex torn thigh muscle in training and is likely to be out of action for eight weeks.
That was confirmed by an MRI scan on Wednesday night. Volland has already started his rehab at the Werkstatt facility at the BayArena.
"Of course, it brings you down at first. But that doesn't help at all. I won't let my head drop, I'll focus on the rehab and do all I can to get fit again as soon as possible."

Construction work continues on the ‘Haus der Talente’ on Kurtekottenweg in Leverkusen, where 36 young elite athletes will find a new home from next summer. The building team from Temmink Bau, led by Thomas Wellers, are hard at work. Fritz Walter Gold Medals for Eichhorn and Onyeka
Once again, two Fritz Walter Gold Medals are heading to Leverkusen: Bayer 04 new signing Kennet Eichhorn and Francis Onyeka, a product of the Werkself youth set-up, currently on loan at SV Elversberg, were honoured for their performances during the 2025/26 season. The DFB announced the awards on Monday, 14 September. The Fritz Walter Medal is the most prestigious individual award in German youth football.
