The Solingen-born midfielder joined Bayer 04 as a seven-year-old before going on to play for all the youth teams. After time at Aalen, Osnabrück, Salzburg and Dortmund the Slovenia international returned to Leverkusen in 2015. Kampl played 53 Bundesliga games, six DFB Cup ties and made 13 appearances in the Champions League plus one in the Europa League for the Werkself.
"I'd like to say thank you for two great years. It was an emotional time with highs and lows. I was very happy to wear the shirt of the club where I started. I always gave 100 per cent on the pitch and Bayer 04 will continue to have a place in my heart," said Kevin Kampl.
The Werkself host Bayern Munich at the BayArena on matchday 26 in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. The match is on Saturday, 14 March, with the kick-off at 15:30 CET. Information on ticket sales.
