Kerem Demirbay tests positive for Covid-19

Bayer 04 player Kerem Demirbay tested positive for Covid-19 at the latest routine check of the Leverkusen first-team squad. The infection of the midfielder was diagnosed on Friday 4 December after returning from France following the 3-2 win for the Werkself against Nice in the group stage of the Europa League.

All the other tests of the players and staff were negative. Accordingly, Bayer 04 can play the away game at Schalke 04 as planned on Sunday 6 December (kick-off: 18.00 CET).

Demirbay, who was separated from the team immediately after the diagnosis, has been in self-isolation since Friday. The 27-year-old is asymptomatic and he is well. A physiotherapist, who treated Demirbay during the Europa League trip to France, is also in self-isolation as a preventive measure in spite of a negative Covid-19 test.
