Al-Wahda was founded in 1945 in Mecca and is one of the oldest clubs in Saudi Arabia. The team is coached by the Brazilian Fábio Carille and his squad includes fellow countrymen in midfielders Anselmo and Marcos Guilherme and central striker Fernandao. Other well-known players are the Venezuelan Rómulo Otero (26 internationals) and Emre Colak (four internationals for Turkey).
Apart from the friendly against Istanbul Basaksehir FK (2 August), the Herrlich team are away to Dutch first division club Fortuna Sittard on Saturday 28 July – the day before setting off for the training camp. After the days in Austria, there is another friendly away to Valencia on 11 August.

In a friendly against Belgian top-flight side KRC Genk on Saturday afternoon, coach Roberto Pätzold’s team secured a 1–0 win. Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993). And the Berliner stayed with the Werkself after ending his impressive playing career as he worked as a goalkeeping coach for the following nine years. Vollborn now works under the Bayer Cross as a fan liaison officer and club archivist.
