The video games manufacture Electronic Arts (EA) in association with the German Football League (DFL) recently announced the six nominees in the vote for Bundesliga Player of the Month of October. Florian Wirtz came out on top against notable opposition with Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong plus Harry Kane, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané (all Bayern Munich) and Lois Openda (RB Leipzig) also nominated.
40% of votes came from fans, with 30% each from the 18 team captains plus a panel of pundits.
This award has been presented since the 2018/19 season. The trophy picked up by Wirtz is already the eighth to come to Leverkusen.

To kick off the new DFB Pokal campaign, the Bayer 04 women’s team face Bundesliga 2 side FC Viktoria Berlin. That was the outcome of the draw for the first round proper on Monday afternoon. The match will be played between 26 and 28 September; the exact date is yet to be confirmed.
