Flood disaster: Clean-up operations and aid packages

North Rhine-Westphalia is still in the grip of the floods. Bayer 04 have decided to work with the City of Leverkusen and fan groups in situ. The first concrete steps have been taken.

The Bayer 04 Fan House has become the logistics centre for aid in the locality. On Friday they were busy buttering rolls, which were put together with other foods and drink to make aid packages. The Werkself made three vehicles available to enable employees to deliver aid packages to people in the most affected areas of Opladen and Schlebusch.

Other direct help is being provided in addition to the provision of basic supplies of food. Fan groups have contributed to clean-up operations in the affected parts of the city. This involves distributing bin bags and helping to dispose of refuse.

citizens Hotline and donations account

The City of Leverkusen is coordinating all measures and they have introduced a citizens hotline. Help is provided under the following number from eight in the morning to six at night: (0214) 406 3333. An account has been set up by the Leverkusen community foundation for anybody wishing to donate the victims of the floods. The account details are: IBAN: DE40 3755 1440 0100 1262 26; Reference: ‘Leverkusen hilft’.

Bayer 04 legend Stefan Kießling also feels affected and he has looked to help both people in need and people providing support. HERE is the message from our honorary captain.

Carro: Solidarity is exceptional

"The floods have hit the whole region hard. A lot of people affected are facing the potential loss of their livelihoods. That makes it even better to hear how people are pulling together in this emergency and providing mutual help. This solidarity is exceptional and, as Bayer 04, we are grateful to be able to make our contribution," said Bayer 04 CEO Fernando Carro.

The Bayer 04 fan groups, NK 12, the Ultras and Werkself members of staff, some of whom have been affected, have played a big part in the provision of quick and unbureaucratic assistance. Thanks are due to them as well as the City of Leverkusen, the police and rescue organisations involved for their tireless commitment.
