Expert discussions at the BayArena

Yesterday, Monday, Marcel Daum and Simon Lackmann invited analysts, data experts and Bayer 04 junior coaches from Bayer 04 to the Premium Lounge at the BayArena as part of the ‘Expert Days Analytics’. After Daum opened the meeting with a presentation on the processes and tools used by the Werkself analysis team, further presentations followed from those in attendance, where they brought their colleagues up to speed on the latest developments in their respective fields. Guest speaker, British match analyst Cormac McAinsh also gave presentation on, amongst other things, the characteristics of certain formations and the pros and cons of various pressing methods. Another focus of the event was on how collected data can best be used on the pitch. Football Director Kim Falkenberg was also in attendance.

Expert discussions also took place in the neighbouring conference room at the Bundesliga’s ‘Regional Centre for Head Coaches and Referees’. Alongside other coaches from the first to third divisions, FC Schalke 04 coach Miron Muslic and veteran coach Friedhelm Funkel came to the BayArena. Following opening remarks by Thomas Eichin, Director of Professional Teams at Bayer 04, and Andreas Rettig, the DFB Sports Director, the group discussed current interpretations of the rules in football and upcoming changes to the rules with professional referees Sascha Stegemann and Harm Osmers.
