The coach joined Leverkusen from the DFB in 2013. “Daniel Niedzkowski has done a great job as assistant coach. We would have liked him to stay longer but we completely understand his desire to return to the DFB. We will keep in contact due to his new role. Daniel is always welcome at the BayArena,” said sporting director Rudi Völler.
Niedzkowski believes the three years spent at Bayer 04 were “very successful on the sporting level and I had a great time here. Intensive cooperation with three different head coaches brought a wealth of experience and I’m very grateful for that. The move to the DFB provides me with a very attractive opportunity to share that experience with coaches working to get into professional football management and support them along the way.”

Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993). And the Berliner stayed with the Werkself after ending his impressive playing career working as a goalkeeping coach for the following nine years. During the international break, Bayer 04 will face third-division newcomers SC Fortuna Köln on Friday 2 October (kick-off: 11:00 CEST).
