Although Palacios didn’t get onto the pitch in Houston, Hincapie again started and played the whole game. Lisandro Martinez had headed the World Cup holders in front in the first half. Enner Valencia struck the post with a penalty for Ecuador in the 62nd minute, but Kevin Rodriguez did find an equaliser in the first minute of added time.
There was no extra-time as the tie went straight to penalties. Lionel Messi missed Argentina’s first attempt, but Ecuador failed to take advantage and were beaten 4-2 from the spot.
Palacios and his country will play their semi-final on Tuesday, 9 July in East Rutherford, New Jersey against either Venezuela or Canada.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the leading gardening equipment manufacturer STIGA have extended their successful partnership. As an official partner in the Sponsors Club of the Champions League participants, STIGA has already provided support to the Bayer 04 ground staff in the maintenance of the pitch at the BayArena as well as the other club training grounds. Under the new agreement, the company, based in Straelen in North Rhine Westphalia, has agreed a two-year extension with the current Bundesliga runners-up and 2024 double winners.
