Calf injury sidelines Aránguiz
Charles Aránguiz suffered a torn muscle in his right calf against Schalke and is likely to be ruled out of action for three weeks.
Bayer 04 head coach Heiko Herrlich had his full squad available for the Schalke match with the exception of Tin Jedvaj who is currently making good progress in rehab following a hairline fracture to his shin. The Werkself now have to cope with the loss of another player: Charles Aránguiz suffered a torn calf muscle in the Friday night clash with the Royal Blues. The injury was confirmed by an MRI scan on Saturday morning.
The Chile international, who has been in outstanding form in recent weeks, picked up the injury in the first half and he did not emerge from the dressing room at the start of the second 45 minutes. Aránguiz misses playing for Chile in this week's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Brazil and is likely to be out of action for Bayer 04 for three weeks.

In a friendly against Belgian top-flight side KRC Genk on Saturday afternoon, coach Roberto Pätzold’s team secured a 1–0 win. Werkself beat Essen 3-0 in friendly ahead of preseason training camp
A successful fourth preseason friendly ahead of the start of the training camp: The Werkself secured a 3-0 victory over Rot-Weiss Essen at the Ulrich Haberland Stadium. The goals in what was a commanding and dominant performance by Leverkusen from the outset were scored by Ibrahim Maza (8'), Patrik Schick from the penalty spot (23’) and, in the second half, Montrell Culbreath with a header (79’). The team set off for their training camp in Blankenhain in the Weimarer Land region after the game.

Rudi recounts…: Vollborn August highlights
Rüdiger Vollborn has been at the club for 40 years, he holds the record number of Bundesliga appearances for the club (401) and is the only Bayer 04 player to have won both the UEFA Cup (1988) and the DFB Pokal (1993). Tillman back in Leverkusen after World Cup with the USA
