Boniface sidelined: Striker faces operation

Bayer 04 Leverkusen centre forward Victor Boniface is ruled out of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (13 January to 11 February) and is also unavailable to the Werkself for the time being. The Nigeria international suffered an injury during preparations with his national team in the build-up to AFCON in the Ivory Coast. He has had to return to Germany early.

Boniface suffered an injury to his groin at the Nigeria training camp in Dubai. That was the outcome of an MRI examination this afternoon in Cologne. Boniface will undergo an operation in the next few days. The 23-year-old striker will probably be able to return to the Bayer 04 squad at the beginning of April.
