Birthday boy of the month: Thomas Dooley
Thomas Dooley, known as Tom for short, was born in Bechhofen on 12 May 1961, the son of an American soldier and a German mother. He only became a professional player at the age of 22 with FC Homburg.
His following club FC Kaiserslautern was probably his most successful with the German league title in 1990 and the DFB Cup in 1991. Tom became an American citizen ahead of the 1994 World Cup to be able to play for his father's home country in the World Cup in the USA. He won a total of 81 international caps.
He signed for our club after the tournament. He only made 16 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer 04 before moving on to Schalke 04 a year later where he won the UEFA Cup in 1997. A happy 60th birthday, Tom.

Boris Zivkovic was born on 15 November 1975 in the Bosnian town of Zivinice, which is now part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He played for FK Sarajevo at a young age. However, his youth was characterised by the turmoil of the wars in the former Yugoslavia. At the age of just 17, he was also called up and took part in the fighting - a fate shared by many young men of his generation.
