"Josip Stanisic is already very experienced in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, he's technically strong, has game intelligence, is two-footed and can play in several defensive positions," said Bayer 04 sporting managing director Simon Rolfes about the many qualities of the player. "The signing of Josip again increases competition in our squad. He’s a very ambitious player who will further strengthen the quality of the squad."

For the Munich-born Stanisic, the move to Leverkusen offers "a very attractive prospect. The team is packed with top players and I was really motivated by my talks with the club," said the versatile defender. "There are clear ideas here and an exceptional environment. I'm really looking forward to the Werkself – for me they were one of the most exciting teams in the Bundesliga last season."
