Bayer 04 Leverkusen has comprehensively revised the plans for the Bayer 04 Campus on Alfred-Nobel-Strasse in Monheim since November 2025 in response to criticism from some of Monheim's politicians and citizens. The main focus was on issues relating to the size of the project, environmental and wildlife protection, potential noise and traffic pollution and alternative sites in the region. The club has responded to these issues with concrete proposals for solutions. The revised concept will now be presented to the public via a dedicated website and at a citizens' meeting, having previously been discussed and further developed in several consultation meetings with the CDU, SPD, Greens and FDP coalition.
The main changes to the concept compared to the original version are as follows:
The campus does not entail any investment costs for the town of Monheim. The 150 or so new jobs created will generate measurable economic benefits. The club has also made various offers to the city in order to maximise the added value of the campus for Monheim. These include the option of founding an energy cooperative, which would make it easier for the city to achieve its goal of climate neutrality. Citizens and businesses in Monheim would thus benefit from lower energy prices.

At the suggestion of the Monheim coalition parties, Bayer 04 also re-examined the location of the campus at alternative sites in the region. These included the area between Buschbergsee and Großer Laacher See, which is partly on Monheim and partly on Leverkusen city territory. However, independent examinations have shown that none of these areas are suitable for the development of the Bayer 04 Campus in the time frame available, not even with the greatly reduced planning scope.
Bayer 04 will present the revised plans in detail to neighbours, interested parties and the relevant political committee. Bayer 04 is therefore inviting all interested citizens to see the plans for themselves on Monday, 8 June at 18:00 CEST in the Bürgerhaus Baumberg. Anyone interested can register for the event by sending an e-mail to monheim@bayer04.de. Further information on the project is available at campus.bayer04.de.campus.bayer04.de.

Following the final match of the 2025/26 season, the prevailing feeling was naturally one of disappointment after missing out on qualification for the Champions League. The Werkself finished the Bundesliga in sixth place, meaning they'll start the 2026/27 campaign in the Europa League. "But to talk negatively about everything now because of that would be wrong," stressed captain Robert Andrich following the final game, knowing that the past year at Bayer 04 was marked, more than almost any other, by the start of a new era and the courage to change – and in particular, the belief in a positive direction. Everyone was aware this process would need time. The first part of the 2025/26 season review.
