Bayer 04 loan Panos Retsos to St. Etienne

Bayer 04 have loaned out Greece U21 international Panagiotis Retsos to St. Etienne to the end of the season. The defensive all-rounder has a contract at the Werkself to 30 June 2022. The French top-flight side, currently seventh in Ligue 1, have an option to buy the 22-year-old.

Retsos was on loan for the second half of the 2019/20 season at the Premier League club Sheffield United. Before that, the right footer, signed by Bayer 04 in the summer of 2017, had made 35 appearances for the Werkself with four goal involvements.

Bayer 04 aren’t just the new champions of Germany but are also leading the way in engaging young fans after becoming the first Bundesliga club to release its own Pixi children’s book. Werkself review #BVBB04: Another last-minute goal to keep record run going

Bayer 04 extended their unbeaten run this season to 45 competitive fixtures thanks to another dramatic finish away at Borussia Dortmund on Bundesliga Matchday 30. At first, the game looked like finishing goalless and then like a first defeat of 2023/24 for the Werkself before Leverkusen struck late yet again. This time it was Josip Stanisic in the seventh minute of added time to spark delight among the 8,000 travelling supporters and the coaches and substitutes on the bench.
