“With a growing and passionate fanbase around the world, especially in Brazil, the expansion of our digital channels to feature Portuguese-languages is an exciting next step in bringing Bayer 04 Leverkusen closer to even more international supporters,” said Holger Tromp, Communications Director, Bayer 04 Leverkusen. “Brazilian players have a long history at our club — legends like Lúcio, Zé Roberto, Paulo Sérgio, and Jorginho – and we’re proud to honor this legacy by making our content more accessible to Portuguese-speaking fans everywhere.”
More than 20 Brazilian players have featured in the black and red of Leverkusen over the past four decades. Defender Wendell has notched the most appearances with 250 from 2014-2021, while Paulo Sérgio holds the record for most goals by a Brazilian for Die Werkself with 64. The football icon was appointed as an Official Bayer 04 Legend last year.
“Brazil is an incredibly connected country with very high levels of mobile use and time spent on social platforms to get daily news and information,” added Tromp. “This way we will connect directly with fans across key channels including localized content and events. These channels will serve as a foundation for all our future activities in Brazil.”
The initiative of these channels reflects Bayer 04 Leverkusen’s ongoing commitment to global engagement, digital innovation and sustainable partnerships - ensuring fans everywhere can be part of the journey, in the language they love most. And with Brazilian defender Arthur on the roster, Bayer 04 also features a player with a direct link and personal connection to South America’s biggest market.
