"We really value Niklas and his qualities," declared sporting director Simon Rolfes. "Over the years, he has contributed a lot to the success of our senior squads with his special team spirit and great commitment in training every day. We will continue to back him."

The Bayer 04 Women suffered a setback in the race for third place in the Bundesliga table.
