The final session in Donaueschingen started a few minutes earlier than on the previous days due to the subsequent journey to France. Many fans turned up to watch Florian Wirtz and Co. train on site one last time. Once again, the fans were able to watch the first part of the session, while the second part was held behind closed doors and mainly consisted of tactical exercises. Afterwards, Simon Rolfes, Xabi Alonso and Co. thanked those responsible at SV Aasen for their hospitality this week.
Between training and the departure for Stuttgart airport, Bayer 04 managing directors Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes - on behalf of the entire club - signed the city of Donaueschingen's Golden Book in the presence of Mayor Erik Pauly.
After six days of training in Donaueschingen, the Werkself left their hotel shortly after lunch to continue their journey to northern France. Tomorrow, Saturday 3 August, at 4 p.m. CEST, they will play a friendly match against top French club RC Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Bayer 04 are through to the second round of the DFB Pokal after a 4-0 win at Sonnenhof Großaspach on Friday night. The game was paused after only 18 minutes due to a storm over the ground. After a lengthy delay, play resumed and Patrik Schick opened the scoring. Arthur, Christian Kofane and Alejandro Grimaldo made things more comfortable in the second half, as the fourth-tier side had two players sent off.
