All clear for Baumgartlinger and Bender

Following the home win against Mainz 05 on Sunday, the Werkself players and coaches have been able to enjoy a day off on Monday. Julian Baumgartlinger and captain Lars Bender did come to the BayArena, or, to be more precise, they visited the medical section. That was due to thigh injuries suffered in yesterday's match. However, neither player is expected to be sidelined for long.

Both Baumgartlinger and Bender received painful knocks to their left thighs in challenges in the 2-0 win against Mainz – Baumgartlinger had to go off on the half-hour mark and Bender was substituted on 64 minutes (replaced by Benjamin Henrichs, see photo). Thorough medical intervention was undertaken yesterday and treatment continued on Monday.

Both players are expected to return to full training during the week and may be available for the forthcoming away match at SC Freiburg if they have fully recovered.

Leverkusen may choose to look for the aerial route if they’re to get the better of their hosts, who have conceded more headed goals than any other team.
