For the first time in Bayer 04’s history, the Werkself will have a dedicated kit for European competitions. The team will wear the jersey in European matches during the 2026/27 season.
The European jersey is showcased by Bayer 04 legends and current Werkself players. Together, they represent the generations that have shaped the club’s European history and continue to write its story to this day. The 1988 UEFA Cup victory, the epic battle in the 2002 Champions League final against Real Madrid, and the Werkself’s breathtaking run to the 2024 Europa League final are just some of the highlights in a Bayer 04 story brimming with them, a story that finds its visual expression in the new kit.
The design is inspired by 40 years of Bayer 04 on the European football stage. The striking diagonal stripes draw on elements from previous kits and evoke many memorable European nights in the club’s history. The black base colour is complemented by silver details, inspired by the world-famous trophies from various European competitions, which lend the jersey a distinctive character. A real standout element within the overall design concept is the classic club logo on the left – one of the two elements of the legendary double badge used in the 1970s and 1980s.
Finally, there is a special detail on the back of the shirt. The lettering ‘04/40’ stands for Bayer 04 and 40 years of European competitions, and serves as a reminder of the many matches, trips and successes that Bayer 04 has enjoyed on the international stage.
The replica jerseys are made from 100 per cent recycled polyester. The Elite jersey (currently unavailable in size M) features a high-quality blend of 90 per cent polyester and 10 per cent elastane, offering exceptional comfort and optimum functionality during sporting activities.
The campaign slogan “40 Years Across Europe. Still Creating History.” links Leverkusen’s past and present. It symbolises four decades of the Werkself in European competitions and the conviction that the next chapters will continue to be written in the decades to come. The European jersey is available in adult sizes (S–5XL) for €94.90. For fans who would like to wear the same design as the Werkself, there is also the Elite version – identical to the jersey the team will wear in 2026/27. The Elite jersey is available in sizes S–3XL for €139.90. Club members receive a 10 per cent discount on the jersey.
The jersey can be enhanced with silver custom printing for a unique look. You can choose from the players in the first team and the honorary captains (€19.90 each). The European jersey is also available in a strictly limited-edition box. In addition to the shirt in the ‘Elite’ version, this box contains a certificate, a credit card holder and a key ring. The highlight is a Bayer 04 Legends collectable card featuring an original autograph from the respective legend. Seven designs – or players – each of which is available in a limited run of just 43, form part of this exclusive series: Jens Nowotny, Paulo Sergio, Ulf Kirsten, Karim Bellarabi, Falko Götz, Hans-Peter Lehnhoff and Rüdiger Vollborn. The jersey box costs €249.90; members pay €224.91. The fixture details for the Bayer 04 Women’s first match in the 2026/27 DFB Pokal has been confirmed: As announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Thursday morning, the Leverkusen Women will face second-tier side FC Viktoria Berlin in the first round on Sunday 27 September at 14:00 CEST.

Once again, well over 100 Werkself fans were delighted to receive an invitation from the club’s record appearance-maker, Rüdiger Vollborn, to the sold-out Schwadbud at the BayArena. This time, the supporters listened as the club historian provided fascinating, exclusive insights into the period from Bayer 04 being founded in 1904 to the club’s promotion to the Bundesliga in 1979. A journey through time is also planned for the upcoming ‘Rudi lädt ein’ event in early November – this time focusing on the years of the Nazi regime.

Happy children’s faces at the SSV Lützenkirchen training ground: For the 25th time, the Birkenberg soccer school – organised by SportBund Leverkusen – offered participating youngsters an exciting holiday activity. Meeting a Bayer 04 player has now become a cherished tradition. This time, Ibrahim Maza visited the 150 children and spoke to them about his World Cup experiences, amongst other things. “It’s always lovely to see the children’s enthusiasm for football,” said the 20-year-old, after bringing a sparkle to many eyes with selfies and autographs.
