He has amazed everybody: When Edmond Tapsoba moved to Bayer 04 from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimarães in January 2020, the central defender was actually seen as a promising option for the future. But Tapsoba quickly settled in and established himself as a first choice. In spite of all the language barriers, he impressed immediately with robust, quality work in the style of an experienced player: strong in challenges, incredibly calm under pressure, confident on the ball and accurate in opening up play. 'Eddy' quickly brought defensive stability to the Werkself. Tapsoba's calmness on the pitch fits in with his private preferences: "I like to be at home. One of my hobbies is lying in bed."
The Werkself trio of Odilon Kossounou, Edmond Tapsoba and Amine Adli have all now played their round of 16 ties at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. While Kossounou and hosts Ivory Coast have advanced to the quarter-finals, the tournament is over for Tapsoba’s Burkina Faso and Adli’s Morocco. The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast is about to get under way. Bayer 04 defender Edmond Tapsoba will miss tomorrow's UEFA Europa League game away to Qarabag and the Bundesliga home game against Union Berlin on Sunday. The Burkina Faso international has to undergo an operation on his left hand following the injury suffered in last week's 5-2 DFB Pokal win away to third division SV Sandhausen.Show more
The African association Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the list of 30 nominees in the vote for African Player of the Year 2023. The nominees include Werkself player Edmond Tapsoba. The winner will be announced at the CAF Awards in Marrakech on 11 December.Show more
