The Brazilian went into his third season at Bayer 04 with a handicap. Paulinho suffered a torn cruciate in training a few days before the cup final. The rehab for the left-winger, signed from Vasco da Gama, is taking several months. Paulinho showed how he can add to the Werkself in his first start in the Bundesliga. In the 4-0 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in March, he shone with his tempo, technique and a brace. "I've waited for this moment for a year and a half," said Paulo Henrique Sampaio Filho, his full name. The Italian magazine Tuttosport is convinced of his talent: They nominated Paulinho for the Golden Boy award for the best player under 21.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Olympic Games winner Paulinho part company with immediate effect. The 22-year-old forward joins top-flight Brazil club Atlético Mineiro on loan to the end of his contract in the summer of 2023. Paulinho returns home after four and a half years under the Bayer Cross. He signed for the Werkself from Vasco de Gama in 2018.Show more
