Women: Klink and Barth agree new deals
A clear commitment that sends out a signal: Anna Klink and Merle Barth have agreed contract extensions at Bayer 04 Women – regardless of the division the team under coach Verena Hagedorn are in next season.
"We are happy Anna and Merle have decided to stay at Bayer 04," said Linda Peckhaus, director of the Women's section.
Anna Klink (22) and Merle Barth, who celebrated her 23rd birthday on Friday, progressed through the youth teams at Bayer 04 and have been at the club since 2009. Both are regulars in the Bundesliga team with Klink in goal and Barth as a versatile player in defence, midfield and attack. On Sunday, the duo will be in the Leverkusen side in Sinsheim looking to pick up points against TSG Hoffenheim in the battle to stay in the top division of the Allianz Women's Bundesliga.

Bayer 04 ended the year with a 3-1 win away at RB Leipzig and will go into 2026 in third place in the Bundesliga table, leapfrogging their opponents, who had previously not dropped a point at the Red Bull Arena this season. Bayer 04 picked up three points in the last home game of the year with 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln on matchday 14. After a dominant first half with good chances, Martin Terrier, who came on as a substitute in the second half, produced a brilliant scorpion kick to make to 1-0 for the Werkself (66') before captain Robert Andrich rounded off the derby victory with a header six minutes later.

Bayer 04 recognised as DFB talent support centre for women
The German Football Association (DFB) has officially recognised Bayer 04 as a women’s talent support centre. As announced by the DFB, 1 FC Köln, Union Berlin, RB Leipzig and Hamburger SV are also certified as performance or talent support centres from 1 January 2026 in addition to the Werkself.

Toothless Women lose key clash in Bremen
Bayer 04 Women suffered a setback at the halfway point of the Google Pixel Women's Bundesliga. In a battle of the chasing pack between the teams in third and fourth, coach Roberto Pätzold's side lost 1-0 at SV Werder Bremen in a physical contest. The result leaves the Werkself on 22 points after 13 matchdays and now four points behind Bremen.
